Paul Merson predicts Tottenham v Liverpool, claims this team has done an Arsenal

Paul Merson has predicted Tottenham to draw 1-1 with Liverpool in their Premier League showdown on Saturday evening.

Sky Sports pundit Merson believes the Reds have “done an Arsenal” by going out of every competition in the last two weeks.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were knocked out of the EFL Cup on January 25 after suffering a second leg defeat to Southampton.

This followed a surprise 2-1 home loss to Championship side Wolves in the FA Cup and more recently a 2-0 loss against league strugglers Hull last Saturday.

As things stand, league leaders Chelsea are 13 points clear of the Merseyside club, who are one point and one place behind the top four places.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson explained why Klopp’s season will be dented furhter when Maurico Pochettino’s side visit at the weekend.

“This is a big game for both these sides’ respective seasons,” Merson told Sky Sports. “Liverpool are out of the title race now and they’ve done an Arsenal, going out of everything in the space of two weeks. If they’re not careful they could be out of the race for the top four – they have to win!

“A Tottenham defeat would more or less hand the title to Chelsea but could put Spurs’ own aspirations at risk. If they lose and the other teams win, all of a sudden they’re in a battle for the top four.

“It can change that quickly. Liverpool have to win and Tottenham have to make sure they don’t lose, with that in mind I see Spurs denting Liverpool’s season further.”

For Spurs, they are sitting in second place, nine points behind Antonio Conte’s men, knowing a defeat could also end their title aspirations.

Pochettino’s side beat a stubborn Middelsbrough last time out and did pick up a valuable point at Manchester City in January.

Both Liverpool and their weekend opponents drew the reverse fixture at White Hart Lane when Danny Rose’s second half goal cancceled out James Milner’s opener.

Left-back Rose will not be playing in this encounter as he recovers from injury with Jan Vertonghen another key defender missing from the away team’s defensive backline.
