Paul Merson predicts Tottenham v Burnley

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson expects a comfortable home victory for Tottenham when they face Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday.

Tottenham are fifth in the league, and go into the tie at White Hart Lane in good goalscoring form. They gave an impressive display in the 3-0 victory over Hull on Wednesday, and Burnley will have to do well to breach Tottenham’s sold defensive-line.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have conceded just 11 times this season, level with league leaders Chelsea as the league’s tidiest outfit.

Sean Dyche’s Burnley, meanwhile, are 13th in the league with just one win from five. They are capable of trumping the big teams, showcased in their 2-0 win over Liverpool earlier in the season. But given their dismal away form, the odds are heavily stacked against them.

They have yet win on the road since the new Premier League season began, and have scored just once in the process.

Merson told Sky Sports: “I have seen a lot of Burnley this season, and they just can’t get going away from home. It is a different story at home, but on the road they haven’t been at it.

“I don’t know what it is, as they will give anyone a game at home.

“Tottenham looked much better the other night and have Harry Kane back and playing well. Nothing other than a Tottenham win here.”

Kane will be Tottenham’s main threat in the attack, and the England international has nine goals in 14 appearances this season.

Christian Eriksen, meanwhile, comes into the tie on the back of a two-goal haul against Hull.

For Burnley, Sam Vokes could be considered their main-goalscoring threat, leading the way with four goals.

In other Tottenham news, the club have agreed their first transfer of the January transfer window.
