Pedro Caixinha issues stance on Celtic and Aberdeen challenge

By Danny Wright

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has made it clear that he isn’t concerned with the threat that Celtic and Aberdeen will pose to his side this season.

The Light Blues kick off their 2017/18 Scottish Premiership campaign with a trip to Motherwell on Sunday and Caixinha will no doubt be hoping that his new-look side can hit the ground running at Fir Park.

The Glaswegians finished in third place last season, behind Aberdeen and bitter rivals Celtic, who won the title without suffering a single defeat.

However the Rangers manager has announced that he is intent on keeping the focus on his own team, and not on his fiercest rivals.

“I am not concerned about challenging Celtic or Aberdeen. I’m more concerned about returning the greatness to this club,” said Caixinha in a pre-match press conference on Thursday, as quoted by Rangers’ official Twitter account.

“I’m not going to be concerned about just two clubs. I need to be focussed on every team and firstly Motherwell then the League Cup.”

Caixinha has already been dealt with a major blow heading into the new season after Rangers suffered what is widely seen as one of the worst results in Scottish football’s history when they lost to Luxembourg minnows Proges Niederkorn in the Europe League last month.

That has now doubt added to the skepticism that has surrounded the large amount of additions the Portuguese boss has made this summer, however recent friendly wins against Watford and Sheffield Wednesday appear to have lifted the mood at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, Kenny Miller has offered his thoughts on the Light Blues’ chances of winning the title this season.
