Pep Guardiola could walk away from Man City with ‘very tempting’ offer ready – pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Pep Guardiola could be “very tempted” by the prospect of leaving Man City to take the vacant Brazil manager hot-seat.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 51-year-old’s decision could be made easier if the Citizens win the Champions League this term.

According to Spanish outlet Sport (11 December), the Brazillian FA are preparing to make contact with Guardiola in order to gauge his interest in succeeding Tite following the Selecao’s World Cup quarter-final exit.

BBC South America expert Tim Vickery has claimed (13 December) the Man City boss previously threw his hat into the ring for the job back in 2012.

Guardiola signed a contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2025 just last month.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “If he’s looking for a new chapter – how often is this Brazil opportunity going to come around?

“Look at their squad. They were the favourites for the World Cup, and probably should have done a lot better.

“It could depend on how far they get this season with winning the Champions League. I think they’ve got a really strong chance.

“This will be something that he’s going to be very tempted by.

“He’d be going to major tournaments, Copa America – and you’d expect him to be successful.

“I’m sure he’s met most of the players along the way. He’d be a firm favourite for the job, and I’m sure he’d walk in there and make a difference.”
