Pep Guardiola to quit Man City after Begiristain resigns? O’Rourke reacts

Pep Guardiola is one step closer to leaving Man City after Txiki Begiristain has decided to depart the club at the end of this season, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Begiristain’s decision will only “add fuel to the fire” regarding Guardiola’s future.

The 53-year-old manager is out of contract at the end of the season, and Man City fans are doing everything in their power to persuade him to remain at the club.

The supporters unveiled a new banner last weekend against Fulham to try to convince the Spaniard, but his future remains uncertain.

Begiristain and Guardiola have worked “hand in hand” during their stint at the Premier League club, with the sporting director also being the man who appointed the coach at Barcelona.

However, sources at the club have said Guardiola is his own man and he will ultimately make the decision about his own future.

Pep Guardiola has the option to remain at Man City

There is a contract there for Guardiola to sign should he want to extend his say at the Etihad Stadium, but it will all depend on him.

The Spaniard will decide whether or not he wants to continue, or if he’d prefer to take a rest after nine years at the Premier League giants.

Guardiola has guided Man City to unprecedented success during his stint in charge, including winning the treble in the 2022-23 campaign.
