West Brom are putting the finishing touches to a big-money Matheus Pereira contract worth £12m in total, Football Insider understands.
This site revealed earlier this week that the Brazilian 24-year-old has reached an agreement in principle with the club over a new and improved deal.
Football Insider has been told by a West Brom source that the contract amounts to £45,000-a-week and lifts Pereira into the top bracket of earners at the club.
He will join Charlie Austin, Jake Livermore and Kieran Gibbs in the elite category at the Hawthorns.
It comes just two months after Pereira joined the Premier League side permanently for £8m on the back of his outstanding 2019-20 loan from Sporting Lisbon.
Pereira signed a four-year contract over the summer but West Brom are set to add a further 12 months to that agreement as well as a pay rise.
It is regarded by the club as a reward for Pereira’s status in Slaven Bilic’s side.
He is regarded as one of their key men as they look to follow up their promotion-winning campaign with Premier League survival.
The Brazilian was outstanding last season, when his 42 Championship appearances yielded a remarkable eight goals and 20 assists – more than any other player in the league.
Pereira has featured in all seven of West Brom’s Premier League matches this season, scoring once – against Everton – as well as supplying two assists.
The Baggies are next in action on Sunday when they host high-flying Tottenham at the Hawthorns.
