Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed it would be "perfect" for Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin to leave the club on loan in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the former Aston Villa and England striker suggested the Irovian could replace Allan in the Toffees' midfield if he returns in good form.

The 25-year-old has played just twice in the for Everton since his £25million move from Mainz last summer.

He initially picked up a hamstring injury last year that was set to keep him out until June but then he suffered an achilles tendon rupture.

Gbamin has been recovering from the injury in Paris but Ancelotti confirmed he is set to return to Everton's Finch Farm training base after the international break.

Asked by Football Insider what he made of Everton's plan to allow Gbamin to leave Goodison Park on loan, Agbonlahor said: “Sometimes a loan is perfect for certain players and for him definitely.

“He needs to get himself out on loan, play some games and then when you come back you could get yourself back into the squad.

“He could be a good replacement for Allan because for me the jury is still out.

“Allan has got quality but in the last few games he has been found out a bit and he needs to get back to how he was playing in the last few games.”

Defensive midfielder Gbamin was brought into Everton as a replacement for outgoing midfielder Idrissa Gueye.

Ancelotti bolstered his midfield ranks in the summer with the signings of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan.
