Pete O’Rourke shares verdict on Harry Kane re-signing for Tottenham after confirmed news

Harry Kane is enjoying life at Bayern Munich since his move from Tottenham in 2023 and continues to smash records with his performances.

Kane became the fastest player to reach 100 goals for a single club after hitting a century in just 104 games, smashing the record held by Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland.

However, his long-term future has been subject to plenty of speculation amid reports of a £56.7million release clause which will become active in 2026.

Should the striker make clear his desire to leave Bayern Munich in search of a new challenge, he will be allowed to go, placing a number of sides including Tottenham on alert.

Football Insider revealed in August that Tottenham are plotting a move to bring Kane back to North London, while manager Thomas Frank has publicly confirmed he would jump at the chance to bring the club legend back.

Harry Kane’s priority revealed as Tottenham eye return

Football Insider revealed on 26 September that Tottenham are plotting a sensational return for Kane and hope they can convince him to return to North London.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the England captain is keen to continue winning trophies and playing at the top level.

If Frank’s side are unable to prove that they will be competitive both domestically and in the Champions League, they could see the striker snatched away from them.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “For Kane right now, he’s having a good time at Bayern Munich, scoring plenty of goals and competing for trophies.

“He would want to go to a club that’s going to give him the opportunity to be successful and win more trophies and honours as well.

“I’m sure Tottenham will be in the mix if he decides to leave Bayern, but they’re going to face a lot of competition for him and it won’t be straightforward.

“It won’t just be other Premier League clubs, the likes of Chelsea and Man United who have been long-term admirers, but Barcelona as well.

“If Kane does leave Bayern Munich next summer, there will be no shortage of offers, and he will want to be successful and playing at the highest level possible.”

Despite his age, Kane remains one of the most prolific and deadly strikers in the world, and clubs across Europe have been put on alert by his situation.

Chelsea, Man United and Barcelona line up Kane swoop

Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in March that Kane wants to return to the Premier League amid reported interest from Liverpool and Man United.

Chelsea, Man United and Barcelona are now set to join the race for his signature should he become available and would be hopeful of beating Spurs to the punch.

Kane has been a long-term target for Man United, while Chelsea continue to spend big and Barcelona eye replacements for Robert Lewandowski.

Despite the interest from elsewhere, however, Spurs will be hoping the striker’s connection to the club will give them the advantage in any race for his signature.

Meanwhile, Daniel Levy confirmed following Kane’s move in 2023 that Spurs will have first refusal to re-sign the England captain should he leave Munich.
