‘Phenomenal’ Newcastle United tipped for top-six finish next season after what pundit has seen

Newcastle United have been backed to finish in the Premier League’s top six next season.

That’s the opinion of former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ recent form.

Since January 22, only Liverpool have collected more Premier League points than Newcastle.

Eddie Howe’s side have displayed top-four form in 2022, winning nine games so far this year.

They won their sixth home game in a row on Wednesday (20 April), something that hasn’t happened since 2004.

McAvennie is certain the Magpies can ruffle some feathers among the established top-six next season after what he’s seen in 2022.

“I told you Newcastle will be good enough to go for that top-six next season,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They have been playing phenomenally well, like a top-six side in 2022 and they are only going to get better.

“I’m not saying it will definitely happen but I do think they have a real chance of doing something impressive next season.

“I don’t see why it won’t happen. We know money will be spent this summer because the Saudis want a successful team as soon as possible.

“I can see it happening, Newcastle are already one of the better teams in this league.”

Newcastle haven’t lost at St James’ Park since a 4-0 loss to Man City on 23 December.

They are on a three-game winning streak ahead of Saturday’s (23 April) clash against bottom side Norwich.
