Phil Foden: Fans destroy ‘disgraceful’ Man City star after loss v Liverpool
Man City star Phil Foden has been slammed for his performance in the Premier League clash v Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday (1 December).
Pep Guardiola’s side were second-best throughout and fell to a 2-0 defeat away from home after the opening goal from Cody Gakpo and a Mohamed Salah penalty.
Despite Liverpool’s dominant display, it was Foden who caught the eye of watching City fans and neutrals, who labelled his display “disgraceful”.
Last year’s PFA Player of the Year award winner has been under intense scrutiny since his underwhelming form for England at Euro 2024, and that pressure has continued to build.
After ten Premier League appearances so far this season, the 24-year-old has failed to score a single goal and picked up just one assist, leading to plenty of criticism from the stands.
Now, his lack of influence in a key clash against Liverpool has raised further red flags, with many insisting he has not turned up when his side have needed him most.
As a result, Guardiola’s side have now gone seven games without a win in all competitions and have fallen to fifth in the table, 11 points behind the league leaders.
Phil Foden torn into on social media following Man City defeat v Liverpool
With the absence of Rodri and Kevin de Bruyne’s lack of fitness, Man City fans have looked to Foden to step up during their hour of need to show what he can do.
However, against Liverpool, he recorded a zero per cent dribble success rate, won just one of eight contested duels and lost possession 12 times before he was substituted in the 79th minute. [Sofascore]
Following the game, fans and neutrals took to social media to make their feelings heard as the England international was labelled “embarrassing” and “overrated”.
In other news, fans have called for Kyle Walker to retire after his display v Liverpool.
