Phil Foden, new contract update and how he’s ‘happy’ at Man City
Phil Foden is “happy at Man City” and is edging closer to a full agreement with the club to commit his future and extend his contract.
Football Insider revealed on 14 November that Man City are closer to agreeing terms with Foden with a deal likely to be agreed in the near future.
With his current contract set to expire in 2027, there has been informal interest in the Man City star, and clubs are keeping a close eye on his situation.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 25-year-old is keen to put pen to paper on a new deal and extend his stay at the Etihad after establishing himself as a key part of Pep Guardiola‘s starting XI once again.
Foden played a key role as Pep Guardiola’s side beat Liverpool 3-0 last time out, and regained his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England side where he picked up an assist against Serbia.

Phil Foden keen to extend his stay at Man City
Football Insider revealed last month that Foden is keen to stay at Man City and hopes to extend his deal to deter any speculation about his future.
Any doubts about his long-term future at the Etihad are now fading, with confidence he will extend his stay in Guardiola’s side for the foreseeable future.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “By all accounts, Phil Foden is happy at Manchester City. He’s a boyhood City fan.
“He’s got just over 18 months to run on his current deal and I’m sure City will be looking to sort of secure his long-term future and end any speculation that he could be lured away.
“I’m sure he would be more than happy to sign a new contract to his existing agreement to pledge his best years to City.

“And I’m sure City would like that to happen as well.
“So for me, yeah, you would expect this to take care of itself sooner rather than later, that all parties are happy to extend this relationship.”
This comes after former Everton CEO Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider on 3 October that Foden will sign a new Man City contract.
Pep Guardiola’s future up in the air as Man City eye replacement
Football Insider revealed on 14 November that Guardiola could leave Man City in 2027, forcing them to create a succession plan in preparation for his departure.
Reports have claimed the 54-year-old could be preparing to leave the Etihad at the end of his contract in 2027, forcing Man City to consider their options.
Despite being reluctant to see Guardiola leave the Etihad any time soon, they are being forced to eye potential long-term replacements.

Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi is one of a number of names being considered by the club’s hierarchy as they put succession plans in place for Guardiola’s departure.
Since taking over at Marseille after his dismissal from Brighton in 2024, the Italian has turned his side into one capable of challenging Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1.
