Phil Foden sends Man City fans message after they destroy him with ‘horrible’ claim

Phil Foden has sent Manchester City fans a fresh update as the team prepares for a crucial showdown against Tottenham in the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola’s side will be looking to bounce back quickly from their defeat to Liverpool on 23 February, a result that left the Reds 11 points clear at the top of the table.

Foden came under fire from Man City fans for his display against Arne Slot’s team, as he was deployed in a false-nine role in the absence of Erling Haaland. The Englishman played the full 90 minutes but struggled to make an impact in a frustrating night for the champions.

Despite the criticism, Foden has now provided supporters with an update ahead of the crucial trip to North London.

Pep Guardiola turns to Phil Foden as Man City fight to rescue their season

Foden shared a collage of images from a recent training session on his Instagram story as City prepare for their upcoming clash against Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side.

The forward has endured a frustrating season, struggling to replicate the form that saw him win PFA Player of the Year last campaign.

It’s a stark contrast from last year, and concerns over his performances have been raised. Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in November that Man City were worried about Foden’s performances.

Man City fans have also aimed the fire at Foden, particularly during the early months of the season, as he failed to score a Premier League goal until December, and once again savaged his “horrible” display in last Sunday’s defeat to Liverpool at Etihad Stadium.

Despite this, Guardiola continues to back the 24-year-old, who has featured 34 times across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and registering five assists.

His versatility has been key, with the England international operating across the frontline and even in midfield, most recently filling in as a centre-forward.

Man City’s season at risk as Pep Guardiola faces growing pressure

City’s season has been far from ideal, as they’ve already been knocked out of the Champions League and now find themselves sitting fifth in the Premier League table.

Guardiola has also come under pressure for his tactical decisions and City’s inconsistency, while Foden is also feeling the pressure to deliver.

With Haaland sidelined through injury, the spotlight is on Foden to step up. A tough away fixture against Spurs presents the perfect opportunity for him to make a statement and silence his critics.
