Philippe Clement and Rangers board at loggerheads amid ‘sack’ claim – sources

Rangers are experiencing rising tensions between Philippe Clement and the board after his latest transfer confession, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Clement is under pressure to start the season strongly amid pressure on his position.

Sources say the boss could hand the Rangers board an ultimatum of “back me or sack me” given the difficulties they have faced in the transfer market.

This comes after the boss was vocal about the need to sell players before they can recruit new options to strengthen his squad this summer.

The manager’s comments have added to the building tension around Ibrox, with fans left raging at the board and questioning whether the boss could walk away.

Philippe Clement hands Rangers board ultimatum as tensions rise

Clement’s comments came as a result of a lack of action in the transfer window despite initial hopes that he would be able to improve his squad this summer.

Rangers have agreed deals for Clinton Nsiala and Hamza Igamane, although Clement insists both are for the future.

Jefte, Connor Barron and Liam Kelly have also arrived this summer for a total fee of around £750,000, with the lack of spending a concern despite the arrivals.

Football Insider revealed that both James Tavernier and Connor Goldson have been earmarked as potential sales to remedy the situation.

Failure to reach the Champions League group stage via the qualification rounds would see Rangers dealt another financial blow amid somewhat of a crisis at Ibrox.

With tensions increasing between the manager, the board and the fans, Rangers’ pre-season preparations may be impacted, with the first game to take place at Murrayfield on 20 July.

The opening stage of the season will be crucial, but with the temporary relocation to Hampden Park, there is already plenty of upheaval underway.
