Phillips tipped to sign £50m+ Leeds deal amid ‘huge’ pundit claim

Kalvin Phillips’ agent will be pressuring him to quit Leeds United, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker tipped Phillips to sign a new contract with Leeds that includes a release clause of at least £50million.

Football Insider revealed (16 September) the Whites had opened talks with their star midfielder over a new contract.

Phillips told the Daily Mail last Thursday (23 December) he “wants” a new contract and is in regular contact with the owner.

The 26-year-old’s current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2024.

“It would be a massive boost,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“But I’m sure he’ll do something similar to what Jack [Grealish] did. I can see a release clause being put in there.

“I don’t see him signing a five-year deal with no release clause. As much as he loves Leeds his agent will be on his case to leave and sign for a bigger club. Phillips will leave within the next year.

“He’ll sign a huge deal with a release clause so the club will get what they deserve for him. He won’t want to leave on the cheap. He’ll want the club to get over £50million for him so they can reinvest it and he leaves them in a good place.”

Phillips has played 226 times across all competitions for Leeds.

The 19-time England international is currently out with a hamstring injury and it is unlikely he will return to action until February.

In other news, Leeds United have been tipped to agree a big-money ‘release clause’ as new talks are reported in the last 48 hours.
