Phillips: Liverpool working on ‘serious upgrade’ on Origi after ‘big talk’ on luring 25-year-old from rivals

Liverpool could ‘seriously upgrade’ on Divock Origi with the signing of Hwang Hee-chan, according to Kevin Phillips.

The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Hwang, 25, would be “an exciting prospect” for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Hwang has shone since moving to Wolves on a season-long loan deal in August.

He has scored four goals in nine Premier League appearances this season.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider the club are monitoring Hwang’s situation among a number of attacking targets.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the transfer report, Phillips said: “There is big talk of Hwang at the moment.

“He has done very well since going to Wolves. He is definitely an exciting talent.

“It is great news for the Premier League that there is another exciting striker around. He has only been here a few months though so only time will tell if he can perform consistently at this level.

“I think Origi’s time at Liverpool is up. He will probably leave in January or the end of the season.

“Someone of Hwan Hee-chan’s ilk is a serious upgrade. He could be an exciting prospect for Liverpool.”
