Phillips: Robertson set for extended absence from Liverpool XI after latest

Andy Robertson could face an extended period out of the Liverpool side after missing Saturday’s demolition of Arsenal, according to Kevin Phillips.

The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Jurgen Klopp will stick with Kostas Tsimikas even when Robertson, 27, returns to full fitness.

Robertson missed the 4-0 win at Anfield with a hamstring injury suffered while on international duty.

Tsimikas stood in for the injured Scotland captain on Saturday and helped the Reds keep a clean sheet.

Liverpool have kept clean sheets in all seven of the games in which the Greek left-back has started this season.

When asked by Football Insider if Tsimikas did enough to retain his spot in the XI, Phillips said: “I think Tsimikas has every right to stay in the team now.

“When a player comes in and take his opportunity it gives the manager a real headache. It is a good headache though because Klopp now has two very good options at left-back.

“When Andy Robertson is fit and flying, there is no-one better in the world for me.

“Credit to Tsimikas though, he might keep Robertson out the side for a while now. Klopp might think he deserves to be given an extended run of games in the side.

“If it was me though, Robertson comes back in as soon as he’s fit. It’s as simple as that.”
