Phillips salutes Liverpool after £82m offer for 'Messi-like' star lined up

Kevin Phillips has insisted Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is “among the world’s best” after his early-season form.

The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, praised the ‘Messi-like’ 29-year-old for proving his doubters wrong “on the pitch”.

Football Insider exclusively revealed today (October 14th) that Liverpool are preparing to make Salah their top earner with a £82million offer – worth £350,000-per-week until he is 34.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that club chiefs want to secure the Egyptian’s future by reaching an agreement before the January window opens.

It is understood that Salah wants to commit the rest of his career to the club where he has developed into one of the world’s outstanding players.

Phillips branded the forward “one of the very best”, insisting that “all hell would’ve broken loose” had Salah left without his demands being met by American owners FSG.

“He’s right up there among the world’s best,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“Watching him score that goal in the City game, it was almost Messi-like – especially to do it against one of the best sides in Europe.

“He’s one of the very best.

“He’s come under criticism at times for going off the boil, but he’s done what the best players do.

“Without saying anything, they prove the doubters wrong on the pitch.

“He’s so influential to Liverpool, his stats are excellent.

“He deserves every penny. If he had left without being offered this deal then all hell would’ve broken loose on Merseyside.

Salah has netted nine in nine games across all competitions this term.

Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson, and Andy Robertson have all recently committed their long-term future to Liverpool after agreeing fresh terms.
