Phillips: Winks is heading out of Tottenham after source reveals transfer update
Kevin Phillips insists Harry Winks’s future lies away from Tottenham as Southampton set their sights on making a summer swoop.
The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the chance of playing regular football will play a major factor in whether Winks decides to move this summer.
On Friday, (April 9th) a Southampton source told Football Insider that Winks is firmly on the club’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window.
Winks, 25, has only started seven Premier League games this season as he has fallen down the pecking order at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after being a regular starter during last year’s campaign.
He has featured heavily in the Europa League but couldn’t help Spurs stay in the competition as he played during the dismal showing away at Dinamo Zagreb.
Phillips insists that a move to St Mary’s would suit Winks as Southampton is a club that could advance his career and give him regular football.

“I like him and the good thing is that he would go there and play week in week out,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“They like to play football and to have the ball. They’re tidy and like to play out from the back so I think Southampton would suit him.
“His future lies away from Tottenham and Southampton is a great club to bring you on and the big thing for him is that he can go somewhere to play regular football on a regular basis in the Premier League.”
Winks didn’t make Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad after being starved of first-team chances this season
His last appearance in the Premier League came on March 7 as he played 70 minutes in the heart of the midfield during Spurs’ 4-1 win over Crystal Palace.
