Alan Hutton reveals what he did as Raphinha goes viral at Leeds

Alan Hutton admitted he was left “clapping” with appreciation after watching Raphinha terrorise Crystal Palace for Leeds United on Monday night.

The former Aston Villa and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, named the 24-year-old as his man of the match “by a mile” and admitted he felt bad for Gary Cahill having to defend against him.

The summer signing saw his shot saved before Patrick Bamford tapped home for the Whites’ second goal but it was the winger’s pirouette and nutmeg on Cahill which ended up going viral on social media.

Raphinha has come to life in recent weeks and has two goals and two assists in the last four games to match his electrifying performances.

Hutton admitted he was left applauding the wide man watching on at home and suggested Marcelo Bielsa would be “over the moon” with his performances.

Asked what he made of the 24-year-old, Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “A brilliant signing, a brilliant player, he just fits into that team.

“Some of the passes that he sees and not just that, the trickery too – he gives you that something special, he was my man of the match by a mile last night and he consistently plays at a high level.

“He just suits that team so Bielsa must be over the moon with him and did you see that little trick to get round Cahill as well? I mean, phwoar, I was clapping when I saw that.

“I felt for Cahill because, as a defender, I know how that feels but he’s been a fantastic signing for them and he’s looking really good.”
