Piero Hincapie set for extended starting role – Arsenal’s three winners from 4-1 vs Spurs

Arsenal cruised to a comfortable North London derby victory which has extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

The Gunners took full advantage of Man City’s defeat at Newcastle, and a further slip up by Liverpool against Nottingham Forest to move six points clear at the top.

Leandro Trossard struck and Eberechi Eze netted a hat-trick as Arsenal seized control at Emirates Stadium and defeated their rivals 4-1.

Leandro Trossard

The Belgian is proving to be a key player for Arsenal down the left flank, despite the competition Arteta has at his disposal.

Trossard signed a new contract at Arsenal earlier in the season, but the 30-year-olds form has taken many by surprise.

His strike against Spurs made it four goal contributions in his last six appearances for Arsenal, which has proved crucial with the fitness issues of Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz.

Eberechi Eze

Spurs wanted Eze in the summer transfer window, but the 27-year-old moved to Arsenal, and in his first north London derby he got on the scoresheet for the Gunners.

Eze’s close control set up a low finish past Guglielmo Vicario, and he executed another strike past the goalkeeper within a minute of the second half before completing his hat-trick with a left-footed effort.

Martin Odegaard’s injury problems will not concern Arteta with Eze on such scintillating form.

Piero Hincapie

Gabriel’s injury for Brazil on international duty was seen as a major blow to Arsenal, but Piero Hincapie slotted into the back four seamlessly.

Hincapie has impressed for Ecuador multiple times on international duty, so the 23-year-old deserved his chance in the centre of defence.

Whilst Spurs lacked much threat up-front, Hincapie won all of his aerial duels and won all of his tackles.
