Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: Arsenal have ‘wasted £100m+’ as ‘worrying’ trend emerges – Campbell

Arsenal have “wasted over £100million” through poor recruitment, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Highbury favourite, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted too many players have left the club for free after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s move to Barcelona was confirmed on Wednesday.

Aubameyang is the third player to leave the Emirates on a free transfer this winter.

Sead Kolasinac and Callum Chambers departed for nothing to Marseille and Aston Villa respectively last month.

Campbell urged the club to learn from their mistakes and sign players who are going to be “assets”.

“It’s a worrying trend,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“I think the problem at Arsenal is that the players who have come in over the past few years have not been the right profile.

“Mesut Ozil and Aubameyang at least performed over a period of time.

“But Chambers came in for a lot of money and was he really good enough? I don’t think so. He has some good games but he was never really at the level required.

“We have seen far too many players come in, not cut it and leave on a free. It has cost the club a lot of money. There has been over £100million wasted.

“The club have to be more clever in how they recruit. The club need to recruit players who are going to be assets. That is really important moving forward.”
