PL attacker believes he should be allowed to hold talks with Everton after very good offer – report
By Harvey Byrne
Swansea playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson is pushing for a move to Everton and wants to be granted permission to talk to Ronald Koeman’s club, according to a report.
The Daily Mail have claimed via their live transfer blog (Saturday, 11.22am) that the 27-year-old believes the Toffees have made a “very good” offer for him and that he should now be allowed to hold talks with the club.
The report follows the BBC Sport announcement that Sigurdsson will not be included in Swansea’s Saturday pre-season clash against Birmingham because of transfer speculation and the Mail report claims the attacker does not want to play until the Swans agree a deal with Everton.
The most recent bid Everton lodged for the Iceland international, as reported by BBC Sport was worth £40million, but that bid was rejected as the Welsh club are holding out for a giant £50million.
The £50million fee would top the Toffees current record transfer spend of £30million on goalkeeper Jordan Pickford by some way and it is unclear whether Everton will launch a further bid.
However, with three years remaining on his contract at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea still hold the power in negotiations.
Football Insider verdict:
There is no doubt that Sigurdsson is a talented player, but at 27 Everton will not recoup any of the £50million in the future and it will certainly take a massive hit on the club’s finances. In the long-term it does not look a good deal for the club and the Toffees must now be hoping that with Sigurdsson’s head clearly turned that, that will knock a extra £10million off his valuation. But, with the Premier League also starting up in two weeks time both clubs will want to put an end to this saga quickly and developements on this transfer can be expected to happen soon.
