In-form PL defender responds to reported interest from Liverpool as summer move beckons
By Will Butcher
Michael Keane has admitted that he is flattered to be reportedly interesting Merseyside giants Liverpool and Everton, as well as Manchester City and Leicester City.
The Daily Mail claims that the 24-year-old Burnley defender is interesting all four Premier League clubs after making his England debut on Wednesday night against Germany.
Speaking after the 1-0 loss to a Lukas Podolski strike at the Westfalenstadion, the defender responded when asked about interest as he continues to shine at the back for Burnley.
“It’s flattering to see, but I’m focused on Burnley,” Keane admitted in the Daily Mail.
“We’ve got nine games left in the season and we need to make sure we remain in the league. But to see things like that can only mean you’re playing well.”
Keane excelled in a three-man defence for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions at Borussia Dortmund’s home ground, with England unlucky to lose to a sublime effort from Podolski.
Former Manchester United defender Keane has proven throughout the season that he is capable of starring in the top flight of English football.
Proving a threat from set pieces and willing to put his body on the line, Keane also possesses strong footwork and showed just that when coming up against Leroy Sane on Wednesday.
Keeping 10 clean sheets in 33 league and cup encounters this season, Burnley’s number five has proved integral at the back to keep Sean Dyche’s side afloat from a relegation fight.
However, the Clarets could soon lose their commanding centre-back, with the lure of some of the biggest Premier League clubs likely to tempt Keane in the summer.
