PL manager keen on signing Everton winger – report
By Derek Smithson
Watford manager Marco Silva is planning to sign Everton wide man Aaron Lennon, according to a report.
The Mirror claim that Watford have expressed an interest in signing the 30-year-old and are keen to take him to Vicarage Road.
It is understood that they want to secure either a loan deal or a permanent move for a small fee for the former England international.
The report details that Silva believes he can reignite Lennon’s stuttering career and that his pace would be a great asset for Watford.
Lennon has received treatment for mental health issues in 2017, but has made his comeback to football and has been involved in Everton’s pre-season preparations.
However, the right winger could now find it difficult to earn a regular spot due to the stiff competition.
He will be competing alongside the likes of Kevin Mirallas, Sandro Ramirez, Ademola Lookman, Yannick Bolasie and Dominic Calvert-Lewin if he stays at Goodison Park for the new season.
Lennon has made 58 appearances for Everton, but is mainly recognised for his 364 games for Spurs earlier in his career.
Football Insider verdict:
Everton appear to have enough strength in depth in the wide areas and should consider selling Lennon on a permanent basis. The pacy midfielder may need a move away from Goodison Park to recapture his best form, which at one point helped him earn 21 International caps for England. The 30-year-old could be a good fit at Watford and give their squad a lift. Meanwhile, Everton boss Ronald Koeman has done some very strong business in the transfer window and now has a squad that should be looking to break into the top six of the Premier League. The Toffees may need to offload a few fringe players and Lennon looks like someone who may be deemed surplus to requirements.
In other Everton transfer news, they are lining up a £9million move for an international defender.
