PL rivals plot ambitious £87m swoop for Tottenham sensation – report

By Matt Farr

Chelsea are looking to break the bank to sign Tottenham midfield sensation Dele Alli, according to a report.

Spanish news outlet Don Balon claim that the Premier League champions are plotting moves for just two top quality additions this summer, and that the 21-year-old star is one of their prime targets.

Alli was in stunning form for Tottenham during the 2016-17 season, contributing 22 goals 13 assists from 50 appearances in all competitions, as he established himself as one of the finest players in his position in Europe.

However, Tottenham will be under no pressure to sell their star performer this summer, especially to one of their fierce rivals, and Chelsea will need to cough up at least £87million to stand any chance of getting their man.

The sheer size of any potential deal, not to mention the rivalry between the two clubs, means that any attempt by Chelsea to land Tottenham’s Alli would be an ambitious move.

The Don Balon report also claims that Chelsea are set to hand manager Antonio Conte with a huge budget in order to add quality reinforcements to his side ahead of their Premier League title defence in 2017-18.

However, it is said that Conte has set his sights on just two new players, with Alli joining Everton goalscorer Romelu Lukaku on his summer wishlist.

Football Insider verdict

As previously mentioned, Tottenham will have no need, or desire to allow a player like Alli to leave the club this summer. Spurs have made significant improvements under Mauricio Pochettino and have proven capable of mounting a title challenge on the Premier League stage. A fresh title bid will be the top target next season, as will success in other domestic and European competitions – including the Champions League – and he will need his best assets at his disposal. £87 million is a lot of money, and it could go a long way to improving the squad in north London, but if it means offloading Alli, Tottenham must shut up shop immediately.

In other Tottenham transfer news, the club are reportedly ready to fund a move for this £30million-rated goal machine.
