Pochettino sack news: Kieran Maguire ‘amazed’ by Todd Boehly after hearing £10m news
Chelsea can’t afford the £10m fee to sack Mauricio Pochettino – Is Todd Boehly to blame?
Chelsea are ‘living on the limit’ when it comes to Financial Fair Play because of Todd Boehly’s poor decision-making.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about reports that the Blues cannot afford the severance payment to sack Pochettino this season.
As reported by the Daily Mail, and which has been corroborated today by Football Insider sources, there are concerns at Chelsea that the £10million-plus payout to sack Pochettino would put the club in breach of Premier League financial rules.
Any payout agreed before June 30 would be included in the Blues’ 2023-24 financial accounts.
Pochettino has 18 months remaining on his contract but is under huge pressure at Stamford Bridge with the Londoners sat 11th in the Premier League.
Chelsea have spent over £1billion on new signings since Boehly became chairman of the club in 2022 and they are now on the limit of their allowable losses under Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Maguire slammed the clown-like behaviour of Boehly and questioned his managerial appointments since taking charge of the club.
“I’m amazed that Todd Boehly has not auditioned for the part of Ronald McDonald,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“He has made poor decisions – sacking Tuchel and replacing him with Potter, who was involved in a long-term project, which Boehly got cold feet about.
“The recruitment of Frank Lampard, who had failed elsewhere in English football and unsurprisingly didn’t turn things around at Chelsea.
“Now they have Pochettino who was always going to be greeted with a degree of suspicion from Chelsea fans given that he’s ex-Spurs.

“It’s exactly the same that Spurs fans were suspicious of [Jose] Mourinho because he was ex-Chelsea.
“It does show that the club is very much living at the limit.“
