Premier League club ‘laugh off’ Celtic approach as damning transfer details emerge

Celtic have failed in yet another attempt to sign an attacker to bolster Martin O’Neill’s front line this month.

Franko Kovacevic was a target for Celtic, but the striker now looks set to move to Robbie Keane-led Ferencvaros.

That transfer defeat is just one of several in a January transfer window that is beginning to look more and more concerning for the Bhoys.

Celtic have also shown interest in Kieron Bowie, and will expect to face a lot of competition if they should make a move for him this month.

And Celtic looked at bringing back Kyogo Furuhashi, but Birmingham City have now decided that the Japan international will stay at the club.

Celtic make laughable Joel Piroe inquiry

Football Insider revealed this week that Leeds United have no intention of sanctioning the sale of Joel Piroe in January.

The Dutchman was a force in the Championship last season, scoring 19 goals as Leeds United secured automatic promotion.

But this season, Piroe has made just 10 appearances in the Premier League and has failed to score a single goal across any competition.

Much of that lack of game time in recent months is due to the stunning form of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who arrived on a free transfer in the summer.

The 28-year-old has scored eight goals in his last 10 games in the Premier League, as the Whites have undergone a sensational recovery under Daniel Farke.

But Leeds are not ready to weaken their striking options this month, especially with relegation still a very real threat.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported on Sunday that Celtic made the suggestion of a loan move for Piroe to the Premier League club – a proposition that was “laughed off in bemusement”.

Celtic were reportedly asked if they were serious, given the fact that the 49ers own both Leeds and the Bhoys’ direct title competitors and deadly rivals, Rangers.

Martin O’Neill to grow frustrated

Frustration with the Celtic board is already at an all-time high among the fans. The calamitous reign of Wilfried Nancy and the numerous fan-related decisions have created a tense situation.

The very last thing that decision-makers at Parkhead want, is for the popular figure of O’Neill to start venting his frustrations publicly as well.

But the Northern Irishman will, if things do not rapidly improve on the transfer front. Celtic need reinforcements, and their manager will not stay patient for long.
