Sources: Coventry City set sights on beating Leeds to Zian Flemming deal
Coventry City have joined the race to sign Burnley striker Zian Flemming this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Sky Blues are keen to bolster the attack before they get their return to the Premier League underway, and have identified Flemming as a clear target.
Leeds United and Brentford are also strong admirers of the 28-year-old, with the latter having already made an enquiry into his availability.
A transfer race is developing for Flemming at the moment, with sources indicating that he is also on the radar of several clubs across Europe.
Coventry are hoping to add proven Premier League quality to their group before the big kick-off, and were impressed by Flemming's displays last season.
The former Millwall man ended the season as Burnley's leading goalscorer, with 11 Premier League strikes from just 21 starts in their relegation campaign.
Burnley 'expect' offers for Zian Flemming
Flemming proved last season that he has what it takes to be an effective force in the Premier League, and it is increasingly likely that he won't be playing Championship football this term.
Burnley are reluctant to lose their star man, but are resigned to the fact that it will be extremely difficult to keep hold of him as interest continues to build.
Football Insider revealed on Monday that the Clarets are "expecting" offers to come in for the Dutchman in the coming weeks.
The player himself is also keen on the idea of a return to the Premier League, as he wants to play at the highest level possible, rather than dropping back into the second tier.
Coventry are now pushing themselves forward as another option for the striker, as Frank Lampard looks to add to his squad.
The Midlands outfit are familiar with Flemming from their time in the Championship, and see him as an addition that could help them push for Premier League survival.
Coventry in talks with Rangers over deal
Football Insider revealed last weekend that Coventry are in talks to potentially send winger Jahnoah Markelo on loan to Rangers for the season.
The 23-year-old only joined from Swiss club Zurich back in January, but struggled to make an impact at the CBS Arena and could now be moved on.
Rangers believe that they are well-placed to get a loan deal done for the wideman, which would help clear some wages off the Sky Blues' books.
Markelo made five appearances for Lampard's men in the second half of last season, but failed to register a single goal or assist.
