Premier League title winner warns Mikel Arteta that one star may cost Arsenal major silverware
Arsenal’s long wait for a Premier League title may continue as Mikel Arteta has been told he has still not addressed one issue in the squad.
The Gunners have not won the Premier League since the invincibles in 2004, with Arteta’s side coming second in each of the past three seasons.
Arsenal’s 2-0 win over West Ham means the Gunners are currently top of the table by a point over Liverpool.
Arteta’s squad depth means Arsenal are expected to be challenging on all fronts this season, having also made the semi-finals of the Champions League last campaign.

Viktor Gyokeres is not the answer for Arsenal
Striker Viktor Gyokeres joined Arsenal from Sporting in the summer transfer window, but has only scored three goals during his time in north London so far.
Premier League title winner with Man City, Joleon Lescott, believes the Gunners require a higher calibre of striker to claim the crown in May.
“I would describe Victor Gyokeres as “okay”,” Lescott told the Metro [13 October].
“If you’re going to win the league, your striker can’t be okay, he has to be top.
“I don’t think Mikel Arteta can get Arsenal over the line in the Premier League. But in the Champions League, it’s different.
“With the way he rotates and because of that big gap [before the knockout stages], no one knows what kind of form or fitness teams will be in.“
Gyokeres has been likened to Ruud van Nistelrooy by a former Man United coach despite a difficult start to life at the club.
Arsenal goal scoring issues highlighted
During Lescott’s two Premier title wins, Man City were led by Sergio Aguero who scored 23 goals during the club’s first ever Premier League winning campaign.
Kai Havertz scored just nine Premier League goals last season, and Gyokeres has been brought in to rectify Arsenal’s goal scoring issues.
Played | Goals |
Kai Havertz | 9 |
Bukayo Saka | 6 |
Gabriel Martinelli | 8 |
Leandro Trossard | 8 |
Gyokeres though has so far yet to shine, and Arsenal are still winning games based off their strong defensive structure.
Arsenal have proven their defensive capabilities, and to go to the next level Arteta needs to find a way to get Gyokeres firing.
