Pundit ‘100 per cent’ sure on Newcastle signing Dzeko after reported news

Edin Dzeko would be a “great addition” for Newcastle United during the January window, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed there is “no doubt” that the 35-year-old would score goals for the Magpies.

As reported by The Sun (18 December), Newcastle are weighing up a January move for Bosnia and Herzegovina international Dzeko.

The former Man City striker joined Inter Milan on a free transfer during the summer window, but the report claims the Nerazzurri could be tempted to take an “instant profit”.

When asked for his thoughts on the potential capture of Dzeko, Whelan told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “He would be a great addition. He’s a goalscorer.

“You need those sorts of players in your side. He’s got a wealth of experience overseas and in the Premier League.

“Yes, he’s at the back end of his career, but if you give him the service then he will score goals. There’s no doubt about that.

“You adapt your game the older you get. He’s obviously done that and is still reaping the benefits in front of goal.

“You can never look past players like that. He’s still playing at the very top level at 35, and he’d be an added bonus to that Newcastle side in January – 100%.”

Dzeko is Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most-capped player with 118 appearances, scoring 61 international goals.
