Pundit addresses Kyle Walker injury ‘problem’ after latest from Man City

Frank McAvennie has suggested Man City will not be worried about Kyle Walker’s return from injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Walker’s biggest concern will be ensuring he is fit enough for the World Cup.

On 6 October, City confirmed that the 32-year-old had a successful surgery after suffering a groin injury in the 6-3 Manchester Derby win (2 October).

The defender was not included in the matchday squad for the 3-1 win over Brighton on Saturday (22 October).

Speaking to club media (21 October), Pep Guardiola didn’t provide an update on Walker’s return date and said he has not spoken to the doctors about the right-back.

McAvennie claimed Walker’s absence is not a concern for the Sky Blues.

I think he is a good player,” he told Football Insider.

It is a shame that he is out. I would not be too worried if I were Man City. They have got enough players to take his place and cover him. They have different kinds of players but they can still cover him.

It is England that have a problem and will be worried. It is such a shame because this could be his last World Cup. He will be wanting to take enough time out to make sure he is fit enough.

Walker was included in the England squad for their Nations League games against Germany and Italy last month.

The 32-year-old has made 70 appearances for the national team across all competitions.
