Pundit backs Tottenham to pull off ‘brilliant’ Pickford signing as club ‘desperate’ to get deal done

Paddy Kenny claims Jordan Pickford has what it takes to replace Hugo Lloris at Tottenham.

The former Leeds stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the potential transfer makes sense.

As reported by the Telegraph (18 November), Tottenham are plotting a raid for Pickford, 27, as they search for Hugo Lloris’ long-term successor.

Lloris is entering the final months of his contract and it is unclear whether he will sign a new deal.

The Frenchman is still Spurs’ number one and has started in all of their Premier League games this season.

Kenny claims Pickford and Lloris share a similar level of ability and insisted Tottenham can get a deal done.

When asked if Pickford could succeed as Lloris’ replacement, Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “I don’t see why not.

“If Tottenham are looking for a keeper I would put Pickford and Lloris on a similar standing to be honest.

“Pickford has done brilliantly for Everton this season and he’s never let England down.

“Lloris, for me, has dipped over the last few years so maybe he is looking for a new challenge with his contract expiring.

“Tottenham will be able to afford whatever Everton ask for, it just depends how desperate they are.

“I can see that one happening, it makes a lot of sense.”

Pickford has only missed one league game this season as he sat out his side’s game against Villa with a shoulder injury.

He has also continued to impress as England’s number one following his impressive Euro 2020 campaign.
