Pundit backs West Ham to seal deal for ‘top-quality’ Craig Dawson replacement – ‘I played with him’

Paul Robinson has backed West Ham to sign Everton defender Michael Keane on loan in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 29-year-old, whom he played with at Blackburn Rovers and Burnley, “is a top-quality player.”

According to the Liverpool Echo‘s Chris Beasley (1 December), Keane is set to leave the Toffees on loan during the January transfer window.

It is reported that West Ham, Fulham and Leicester City are all chasing the centre-back’s signature.

David Moyes’s side are in the market for defensive reinforcements in the new year with Craig Dawson expected to leave.

When asked by Football Insider if Keane would be a welcome addition at the London Stadium, Robinson said: “It is a no brainer if you as me.

“He is a top-quality player. I played with him at two clubs, Burnley and Blackburn. He was only young at Blackburn.

“He has every attribute you would want in a centre-half. Yes, there is a mistake in there but he is mentally strong. He is more than capable of being a top centre-half.

“He is not getting his opportunity at Everton so a change might be good for him. A fresh start under a manager like David Moyes, who is very good manager, might be just what he needs. It could be a great move for both.”
