Kenny can’t believe ‘crazy’ Everton decision as Benitez shares Digne update

Paddy Kenny has been left baffled by reports that claim Everton will listen to offers for Lucas Digne in January.

The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, can’t believe the Toffees would attempt to replace the Frenchman.

On 17 December, Fabrizio Romano reported Digne could leave Everton in January with the club set to sign Vitaliy Mikolenko.

The Athletic reported earlier this month (8 December) the defender had a falling out with Rafa Benitez after a public argument at the training ground.

However, as per The Athletic’s Paddy Boyland (23 December), Benitez has claimed Digne remains available for selection.

Kenny claims there may be “more going on” behind the scenes between Digne and Benitez.

“There will be a lot of teams interested,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It’s a really strange one this. He’s a regular for France these days so I’m not sure what has happened there.

“It sounds like an argument. Maybe he isn’t Rafa’s cup of tea.

“There will be loads of clubs out there who will want to sign him. He’s one of the best left-backs in the world for my money.

“It’s crazy that they want to get rid of him. An argument is an argument, you get over it. There is more going on, surely.

“Maybe there is more to it because I think he has done well at Everton.

“Obviously when your manager signs a player in your position alarm bells are ringing.”

Everton

Digne has made 13 Premier League appearances for Everton this season.

All of them have been starts.
