Pundit baffled by Liverpool after source’s Jude Bellingham deal reveal – ‘I can’t fathom it’
Frank McAvennie “can’t fathom” why Liverpool haven’t secured a deal for Jude Bellingham yet.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker urged the Reds to freshen up the midfield with a player like Bellingham.
The 19-year-old’s Borussia Dortmund contract runs until 2025 but Football Insider sources revealed in January that he has stalled on signing a new contract as he gears up for a big-money summer move.
The England international is a priority target for the Reds ahead of the summer window and see him as a key part of their midfield rebuild.
On 4 March, sources told this site that top competitors for Bellingham, Real Madrid, have boosted Liverpool’s pursuit by turning their attention towards Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes.
Although the Spanish giants are huge admirers of the midfielder, Guimaraes is seen as a cheaper option.
On 5 March, Football Insider revealed that Bellingham could cost around £120million this summer as the Reds attempt to lure him away from the Bundesliga.
McAvennie urged Jurgen Klopp’s side to do everything they can to sign Bellingham.
“There is talk about Bellingham going to Real Madrid now,” he told Football Insider.
“I just do not understand why they would not go and get him. I can’t fathom that.

“I do not know what Klopp is going to do but they have to spend money. Liverpool have to spend because everyone else will spend big.
“There is not much wrong with the strikers, they are a work in progress but you see some of the talent they have got but they need to freshen up the midfield. .“
