Pundit can’t believe Anthony Gordon could quit Everton after big-money reveal – ‘there’s a lot of talk’

Paul Robinson has urged Everton star Anthony Gordon to remain at the club for “the next season or two” in order to maximise his development as Frank Lampard speaks out about his future.

The former Tottenham and England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 21-year-old would be a “bit-part player” if he joined interested club Chelsea.

According to the Daily Mail (18 October), Gordon remains in discussions with Everton about a new contract which will net him around £100,000-a-week.

The report quotes Toffees manager Lampard, who insisted he has “no concerns” about the wingers’ future and admitted it is “unfortunate” that details of the big-money offer have emerged.

The England Under-21 international, who was the subject of multiple bids from Chelsea in the summer window, currently has a contract running until 2025.

Robinson suggested Everton will net a “top price” when Gordon completes his development at Goodison Park.

He told Football Insider: “I don’t think he’d play at Chelsea.

“I don’t think he’s at that level yet. There’s a lot of talk about him and the price tag, but I think he’s still got a lot to prove.

“Everton is the right place for him at this stage of his career and at his age.

“He’s a top player, he’s got great potential – but I don’t think he’s at that level. If he was to go to Chelsea then he would be a bit-part player and we wouldn’t see the best of him.

“I think it’s in his best interests to stay at Everton for the next season or two and develop from there.

“If he develops into the player everyone expects him to, then that will be when Everton get the top price for him.”
