Pundit can’t believe Bruno Guimaraes could quit Newcastle United after £88.4m update
Noel Whelan has insisted Newcastle should not sell star midfielder Bruno Guimaraes at any price despite interest from Real Madrid.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted it would be a “step backwards” for the ambitious side if they sold the 24-year-old.
According to Spanish outlet AS (18 August), Real Madrid are interested in Guimaraes as they look for a replacement for Man United-bound midfielder Casemiro.

The report claims Newcastle would demand double the £44.2million fee they paid to Lyon for the Brazil international’s services in January.
Guimaraes made 17 appearances for the Magpies in the second half of last season, scoring five goals and providing one assist.
He is under contract at St James’ Park until June 2026.
Whelan suggested the midfield star could have an integral part to play as Newcastle construct a team capable of challenging for top honours.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “I don’t think they’ll sell.
“He’s that important to the Newcastle midfield. When you’re growing something, you need to keep hold of players like him.
“We’ve seen how quickly he’s adapted and become a fan favourite at the club. He’s dominated the midfield, created chances, and scored goals.
“They’re building a team around him and I don’t think they need to sell him – no matter how much they’re offered.

“They’re building something bigger than money – a side which can challenge for the Premier League.
“I’d be very surprised if they sold him – it’d be a step backwards for Newcastle.”
