Pundit can’t believe ‘crazy’ Arsenal post-match bust-up – ‘I’ve heard people say’
Arsenal stars Ben White and Oleksandr Zinchenko should have had their bust-up after their clash against Nottingham Forest in the dressing room.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie admitted it was “fantastic” to see the pair show their passion after the 2-1 win, but claimed they should have confronted each other behind closed doors.
The Gunners secured an important three points at the City Ground on Tuesday (30 January), but the defenders had to be pulled apart by coaching staff after they argued over Taiwo Awoniyi’s 89th-minute goal.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admitted that he “loved” the passion the duo showed and was pleased with the fact that they demand high standards from each other.
However, McAvennie revealed the on-field nature of the antics was his “biggest” gripe with the bust-up, but claimed it proved the squad are “fighting for the club”.
“This stuff used to happen all the time in my day,” he told Football Insider.
“Not so much on the pitch, but in the dressing room.
“It was a bit crazy behaviour, but it shows their passion.
“I’ve heard people say that Arsenal have no passion, but suddenly this happens!
“For me, it’s great to see. But they shouldn’t be doing that in front of their supporters.
“That’s the biggest thing for me – do it in the dressing room.
“If White and Zinchenko didn’t care, they wouldn’t have been at each other like they were.
“I wouldn’t endorse it, but sometimes it’s fantastic to see that.

“The fans get an idea that they’re fighting for the club, the jersey and that it means something to them.
“You can’t endorse that in today’s football, but I like it.”
