Pundit can’t believe fresh Arsenal criticism as damning quotes emerge

Noel Whelan has insisted Arsenal were well within their rights to celebrate after coming from behind to defeat Fulham in front of their home support.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Gunners are correct to “enjoy the good times” as a more “difficult” period may be on the horizon.

Arsenal completed a resilient comeback against newly-promoted Fulham on Saturday to win 2-1 – maintaining both their 100% record this term and their two-point lead atop the Premier League.

Speaking on beIN Sports (28 August), sports personality Richard Keys slammed Arsenal for “over-celebrating” the win – insisting the scenes were indicative of “how far they’ve fallen” since Arsene Wenger’s reign.

The Gunners face Aston Villa on Wednesday (31 August) – with their first big six test coming against Man United on Sunday (4 September).

Whelan suggested the celebrations were warranted as “it’s not easy winning any game in the Premier League”.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “You’ve got to enjoy the good times, as players and fans, when they come your way.

“There will be difficult times for Arsenal this season. That is a given in the Premier League.

“But while you’re winning football matches and sitting top of the league, you’ve got to enjoy it.

“It’s not easy winning any game in the Premier League – so coming back from a goal down to get all three points, that is something to really be celebrated.

“They’re well within their rights to enjoy the moment.”
