Pundit can’t believe Jack Grealish rift at Man City after source’s ‘devastating’ reveal

Noel Whelan has insisted Pep Guardiola will still have full trust in Man City winger Jack Grealish despite omitting him entirely for the 1-0 loss against Liverpool last week.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 27-year-old won’t be “knocking on Pep’s door and asking questions” despite being disappointed by his decision.

Football Insider revealed on 20 October that Grealish was “devastated” to be omitted by Man City for the marquee showdown against Liverpool last Sunday (16 October).

The England international failed to get off the bench despite the Premier League champions chasing the game away at Anfield all the way into injury time.

Grealish has made just three Premier League starts this term, scoring once.

The £100million signing has notched seven goals and four assists since joining from Aston Villa last summer (2021).

Whelan insisted Guardiola’s team selections cannot be questioned after his success at the Etihad Stadium.

When asked if there was any reason Guardiola couldn’t trust Grealish to deliver in a big game, he told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “No, none whatsoever.

“Sometimes managers have to make big decisions, and he’s a very intelligent manager.

“I don’t think anyone would question Pep about his team selection and his use of substitutes.

“Every player is upset when they don’t get on the field, especially in a big game.

“I don’t think anyone in their right mind will be knocking on Pep’s door and asking questions about why they didn’t get on – even if they did lose to Liverpool.”
