Pundit ‘can’t believe’ latest Harry Kane update out of Tottenham – ‘what is he thinking?’

Harry Kane should not sign a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Kane’s future.

Kane, 29, has entered the final 18 months of the six-year deal he signed in June 2018.

Sources have told Football Insider (7 January) that the striker has no intention of leaving this month but his future remains up in the air.

Man United are now keen on bringing Kane to Old Trafford, but Sky Sports reported on Wednesday (25 January) that he is open to signing a new contract at Tottenham.

“It sounds like Kane is open to signing a new contract, I can’t believe that, what is he thinking,”, McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“There is nothing for him at Tottenham. He is going to beat Jimmy Greaves’ record, that’s nailed on. Then it’s about winning trophies and that’s just not going to happen.

“Conte isn’t staying so why would Harry? He’s just going to keep scoring goals. There is no way Tottenham win the league anytime soon, it just won’t happen.

“They won’t win a European trophy so you’re looking at an FA Cup or a League Cup. Is it worth staying on the off chance you win a domestic cup?

“Or he could go to a better club where you could win league titles and maybe the Champions League. I just don’t get why he would sign a new contract if he wants trophies.”

Kane has scored 16 Premier League goals this season.

He has started all of Spurs’ 21 games in the top flight.
