Pundit can’t believe Lucas Moura latest after £10m Tottenham offer news

Noel Whelan has claimed Lucas Moura still has “a lot to offer” Tottenham amid links with a return to South America.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, conceded it would be “unhealthy” for the 30-year-old to remain at Spurs if he wishes to depart the club for more playing time.

According to Brazillian outlet Bolavip (4 December), Tottenham could be willing to let Moura depart for just £10million amid interest from Flamengo.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star is out of contract at the end of the 2023-24 season.

He has played just 90 minutes of Premier League football this term and is yet to be named in a starting lineup in top-flight action.

Moura has notched 38 goals and 27 assists in 213 games for Tottenham since signing in 2018 for a reported £25million.

He told Football Insider’s Charlotte Cohen: “I don’t think his age is an issue.

“30 is still a good stage in a career.

“I still think he’s got a lot to offer Tottenham and the Premier League. We’ve seen Conte reach for him a few times since he’s come in.

“That goes to show that he is an important player.

“But if the player isn’t happy and he wants to move, there’s no point in keeping them.

“You’re not going to get the best out of them. If he doesn’t want to play for Tottenham, they shouldn’t stand in his way.

“It’s unhealthy, and that spreads through the squad. If he wants to return to Brazil, it would free up some money for Spurs.”
