Pundit can’t believe ‘mental’ Erling Haaland development amid Man City latest

Frank McAvennie has claimed that Erling Haaland will win Man City the Champions League – and it is “mental” that there are some who are questioning his stats.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said winning the league will be “a gimmick” for Pep Guardiola’s side.

The 22-year-old scored a hattrick in the Cityzen’s 4-2 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday (27 August).

The Norway international has now scored six goals in four Premier League appearances for Guardiola’s side.

Haaland has started every league game for the Manchester club so far this season.

On 13 June, City confirmed the signing of the forward from Borussia Dortmund on a five-year deal.

McAvennie has claimed Haaland is only going to get better at the Etihad.

He’ll be top goalscorer this year, he is the man,” he told Football Insider.

He might not get a touch of the ball and then score. The stats now are going mental, you don’t need stats. He scores goals and that’s what he’s there for. And he’ll get better, once he knows his teammates.

Man City

He’s hit the ground running and scored six goals but people are saying he’s not played well. That’s the kind of player you want to see in the Premier League.

I think the league is a gimmick for Man City. I think Haaland will be the difference in the Champions League and I think that’s why Pep signed him. They’re wanting to win the Champions League, Pep’s done it before and he wants to do it with Man City and I think Haaland will do that for him.

In other news, a pundit has suggested Kalvin Phillips may be set for new Man City role after confirmed news.
