Pundit can’t believe Newcastle could beat Man United to hire ‘phenomenal’ Conte after Romano update
Paul Robinson has tipped Manchester United to beat Newcastle United to the appointment of Antonio Conte.
The former Tottenham goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 52-year-old would reject any potential overtures from the newly-rich Magpies.
As reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano (October 25th), Conte is “ready to accept” an offer to take charge at Old Trafford.
Gianluca Di Marzio reported the Red Devils have made initial contact with the Italian manager.
However, there has been reportedly been no offer tabled with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still at the helm at Old Trafford.
According to the Telegraph (October 26th), club chiefs have given Solskjaer three more games to turn things around.
The Old Trafford club’s 5-0 humiliation against Liverpool on Sunday means they have now gone four Premier League games without a win.
Robinson suggested former Chelsea boss Conte would snub any potential approach from Newcastle.
He also insisted Man United have the “quality” to allow the Italian to transform their fortunes.
“I’d get Conte in,” he told Football Insider’s Dylan Childs.
“I can’t see him going to Newcastle yet. Maybe when they are towards the top end of the league and have a much better squad.
“Conte isn’t the type of manager who will want to build something. Especially when he will be in a relegation battle at Newcastle.
“I can see him going to Newcastle in two or three years time.
“His track record is phenomenal.
“He would go in at Man United, take 18 months or two years, and turn that club around. They’ve got the quality of players there that will allow him to do that.”

Man United sit seventh in the Premier League.
They are already eight points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
