Pundit can’t believe ‘remarkable’ Josip Juranovic news at Celtic
Noel Whelan has hailed the “remarkable” transfer team at Celtic as the Parkhead side prepare to sell Josip Juranovic for a big profit.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed rivals Rangers haven’t got “anywhere near” the Hoops in the market despite selling big stars like Calvin Bassey, Joe Aribo, and Nathan Patterson.
As per Sky Sports (19 December) Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and two Premier League sides are now interested in Juranovic – who was signed for a reported £2.5million just last summer.
Sources told this site last month (30 November) that Celtic were confident of securing a big-money fee for the right-back and were open to selling him in January.
Juranovic started six of seven games as Croatia claimed a third-place finish at the World Cup in Qatar.
Celtic have moved quickly to add cover in the right-back position, signing Canada ace Alastair Johnson for a reported fee of £3million.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Celtic have always had a better history of buying players and selling them on for huge profits.
“This interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid just shows what a find they had in Juranovic – and they’re going to reap the benefits of this scouting network yet again.
“As much as Rangers sold some big players for big money, like Aribo, Patterson, Bassey – they haven’t had anywhere near the same success in the market as Celtic.

“It’s remarkable how well Celtic have done considering what they are paying for these players.
“Juranovic is another prime example.”
