Pundit can’t believe Solskjaer staying at Man United until end of season after Telegraph update

Noel Whelan has tipped Manchester United to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer next week if they lose to Tottenham today.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested there would be no coming back for the 48-year-old after a defeat in north London.

The Telegraph (26th October) claim the Manchester United board want to give Solskjaer time to turn things around after recent poor performances and results.

The report claims the Norwegian boss has effectively been given three games to save his job at Old Trafford, starting against Spurs.

The Red Devils face Atalanta and Manchester City before the next international break.

United have reportedly already started their search for a potential replacement after last week’s 5-0 humiliation at the hands of Liverpool.

Whelan insisted things could not get much worse for Solskjaer and his men.

He suggested defeat at Spurs would be the final nail in the coffin.

“Ole said it right, you couldn’t get any lower than that performance (v Liverpool),” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“Where do they go from here? Well, there’s a huge amount of pressure on Man United to get something at Tottenham. That’s not going to be an easy game in itself at all.

“So the pressure is on him. Will he get given until the end of the season? I can’t see that happening if he loses against Tottenham, I really can’t. Personally, I think changes are needed very quickly.

I do believe that when it comes to these sort of players and these sort of superstars you need a different kind of manager to take them to the next level.

“Has he got that experience to do that? I’m not so sure.”
