Hutton: Celtic should make Vuskovic U-turn after what 'I've heard'

Alan Hutton has backed Celtic in their pursuit of Mario Vuskovic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Rangers and Scotland defender suggested replacing Kristoffer Ajer with the 19-year-old would be a “good bit of business”.

Football Insider learned on 8 July Celtic have made it clear to agents they want to secure a £15million fee for Ajer.

Both Norwich City and Bayer Leverkusen are interested in singing the Norway international.

On 26th June, Croatian outlet Sprotske Novosti reported Celtic were close to agreeing a £5.16million deal for Vuskovic.

However, former Rangers star-turned-agent Craig Moore told Go Radio on 7 July, via the Scottish Sun, that the Hoops’ interest had “gone cold”.

“I’ve heard from people in the game he’s a very good ball-playing centre-half and he obviously plays for the Croatia Under-21s,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“Yes, he’s only 19 but everybody’s coming through a lot earlier these days. They’re taught a different way, to carry the ball out from the back and make attacks happen. This is the modern-day centre-back.

“They’ve obviously done their homework on him. They’re not just going to sign a 19-year-old for £5million if they don’t trust and believe in what he can bring to the team.

“Getting potentially £12million in for Ajer and spending £5million on a 19-year-old who can learn and develop under the new manager, that’s a good bit of business.”

Vuksovic has played 41 times across all competitions for Hadjuk Split, including two games in Europa League qualifying.

The teenager has been capped six times by Croatia Under-21s.

In other news, Celtic are negotiating personal terms with an attacker as Postecoglou green lights signing.
