Pundit cites Bruno Fernandes as ‘eight’ Man United stars mooted to quit
Frank McAvennie has claimed Man United need to “bring back” Bruno Fernandes to his best.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker suggested United need to “have a strategy” and get rid of “dead wood”.
The Red Devils were beaten 4-0 by Brentford on Saturday (13 August).
It was Erik ten Hag’s second defeat of the season in as many games.
The Daily Mail reported (13 August) that Ten Hag is the first United manager to lose his first two games in over 100 years.
The Red Devils boss said his side “need to have higher standards” than what they showed against the Bees.
As revealed by WhoScored (13 August), Fernandes had three shots in the game against Brentford but failed to find the back of the net.
McAvennie said the Portugal international and his teammates have lost their passion for the game.
“They’re getting the wages no matter how they play and I think that’s taken a lot of fire out the belly of Man United,” he told Football Insider.
“Spending money on somebody that’s just a name is not working. They’ve got to have a strategy and get rid of seven or eight players.
“There’s a few that could be brought back to being a good player. Fernandes, he’s not a bad player but he’s just not doing it for them at the moment. There’s some decent players there but they have to get rid of the dead wood.“
