Pundit cites Ross Barkley as Celtic tipped to reach ‘another level’
Alan Hutton has claimed Ross Barkley would help Celtic reach “another level” in midfield.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers right-back said getting a deal for the 28-year-old over the line will be “tricky” before the transfer window closes Thursday (2 September).
On Monday (29 August), Chelsea announced the midfielder has left the club by mutual consent.
On 13 August, a source told this site that the Hoops submitted an offer for the midfielder and were initially interested in a loan deal.
Hutton said that Barkley won’t be willing to compromise on his wages.
“The problem with him is, although he’s a free, it’s the wages he’s going to demand,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s not going to come up to Scotland for next to nothing, that’s not what he’s going to do. He’s going to hold out for as long as possible to get as good a deal as possible.

“There’s no doubt that he’s a great player. I saw him when he went on loan to Aston Villa, he started like a house on fire then after the hamstring injury he just went downhill for whatever reason. He’s desperately trying to rediscover that form, he’s still only 28 so he’s got a lot to give.
“If they could get someone like that over the line it would take that midfield to another level, even though they are playing at a high level at this moment in time. I think it’s going to be a tricky one with the wages situation.“
