Pundit claims ‘crazy’ Lingard is ‘killing his career’ after Man United source reveal

Jesse Lingard is “killing his career” by staying at Man United until the end of the season.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider admitted he has been baffled by the attacker’s latest move.

A United source has told Football Insider that Lingard has chosen to remain at Man United beyond January rather than leave as many had expected.

The England international midfielder has just six months remaining on his deal at Old Trafford.

He is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs next month.

McAvennie can’t understand why Lingard wants to stay at Old Trafford.

“I really don’t get that,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He went to West Ham last year and set the world on fire, he was brilliant.

“He’s barely played this season and he wants to stay? I just don’t get that.

“He’s killing his career. Why would you not want to go and join another club and score goals again?

“You can’t tell me he’s happy being sat on the bench. He can’t be.

“I’ve said enough about Lingard not going to West Ham but I’m not sure I want him there if this is his attitude.

“I’m sorry, I just don’t get this at all. He’s not going to play ahead of Ronaldo, is he?

“It’s crazy. It makes no sense to me, I don’t understand what he’s doing.”

Lingard has played just 87 minutes of league football for Man United this season.

Clubs including West Ham and Newcastle were reportedly keen to sign the midfielder in January.
